What if we knew her story before we met her at the well?
Award-winning historical fiction that draws readers into the life of the Samaritan woman through careful research, rich storytelling, and a deep respect for Scripture.
RESTORED. REDEEMED. SEEN. HER STORY CHANGES EVERYTHING.
Meet Adva
Most readers know the woman at the well. They know she had five husbands. They know she met Jesus at Jacob's well. They know she ran back to town telling everyone about the man who knew everything she had ever done.
What was her childhood like? What losses shaped her life? What did she dream about as a young girl? How did grief, marriage, motherhood, disappointment, and longing for Messiah bring her to that well on that particular day?
In the award-winning Daughter of Samaria series, author Jeanette Brewer imagines the life of the woman Scripture leaves unnamed. Drawing from biblical scholarship, historical research, and the customs of first-century Samaria, she introduces readers to Adva—a woman who laughs, loves, suffers, hopes, and searches for purpose in a world that often sees her as little more than property.
Through Adva's story, familiar Scripture becomes deeply personal, revealing the heart of a woman who was fully known by God long before she encountered the Messiah.
But what happened before that moment?
Her story starts here.

Why Readers Love the Daughter of Samaria Series
Readers are not just discovering a story—they are stepping into a world that feels both ancient and startlingly close.
Across the Daughter of Samaria series, five themes rise again and again in reader responses:
Redemption that feels real
Not simplified or polished, but hard-won and deeply human.
Historical immersion
A textured, lived-in world shaped by first-century customs, daily survival, and the weight of cultural expectation.
Biblical authenticity
A careful respect for Scripture that invites readers back to familiar passages with new eyes.
Compassion for overlooked women.
A voice given to those often unnamed or misunderstood in biblical accounts.
A fresh perspective on familiar Scripture
The story of the woman at the well is no longer distant—it becomes personal, immediate, and unforgettable.

Behind The Story
Every story begins with a question. For The Daughter of Samaria, that question was simple:
Who was the woman at the well before she met Jesus?
To answer it, I immersed myself in Scripture, first-century history, archaeology, maps, and cultural research. I explored the world of Samaria, studied the tensions between Jews and Samaritans, and filled notebooks with questions about the woman whose life was transformed by an encounter with Christ.
One detail shaped this novel more than any other: I read John 4 in twenty-five different Bible translations. Each revealed new nuances and insights, helping me see the Samaritan woman not as a stereotype, but as a real person with a story.
My desk disappeared beneath open Bibles, maps, research books, notes, and playlists as I worked to bring her world to life.
My hope is that as you read The Daughter of Samaria, the familiar story of John 4 feels wonderfully new again.
